Miles Grimshaw rejoins Thrive Capital after leaving Benchmark

In a surprising move, Miles Grimshaw announced today that he is rejoining Thrive Capital after serving as a general partner at Benchmark for the past three years.

Grimshaw originally joined Thrive, a New York-based venture firm founded by Joshua Kushner, in 2013. He is returning as a general partner.

In a post on X, Grimshaw expressed his excitement about rejoining the team at Thrive while also looking forward to continuing to collaborate with Benchmark, as Thrive has done for many years.

Kushner also shared the news on X, highlighting Grimshaw's past accomplishments at Thrive, including leading investments in companies like Airtable, Monzo, Lattice, and Benchling.

He further stated, 'As we anticipate the next phase of the firm and the remarkable innovation on the horizon, Miles possesses unique qualities that make him an excellent partner for our founders.'

TechCrunch has reached out to both Grimshaw and Thrive for comments. Update: Thrive directed us to the firm's blog post on the announcement.

Upon joining esteemed venture firm Benchmark in December 2020, the then-29-year-old Miles Grimshaw became its fifth general partner. Previously, he was one of four partners at Thrive when he joined in 2013.

According to the Financial Times, Thrive Capital is seeking to raise at least $3 billion in new capital after significant investments in technology startups last year. These investments include backing Stripe's $6.5 billion funding round, co-leading a $300 million investment in Ramp, and leading a $25 million round in Clair.

In February 2022, Thrive Capital closed its eighth fund with approximately $3 billion in capital commitments, with $500 million allocated for early-stage startups and $2.5 billion for later-stage companies.
